Diamond Creek was founded in 1968 by Al and Boots Brounstein with the first commercial vintage coming in 1972. After falling in love with wine after taking a French Wine Appreciation course at UCLA, Al spent a few years working the harvest at Ridge Vineyard in Cupertino which was owned by a friend.

Before beginning his own venture he took advice from the famed winemaker André Tchelistcheff who recommended he plant Cabernet Sauvignon. Al even went as far as sourcing vine cuttings direct from two First Growth wineries in Bordeaux, France, to ensure access to the very best quality plants.

Diamond Creek has three distinctive vineyards each with its own soil type. Gravelly Meadow takes its name from the pebbly alluvial soils, Volcanic Hill has grey ash soils from the eruption of Mt. Konocti millions of years ago, and Red Rock Terrace is rich in iron and set on a steep hillside. There is also the tiny Lake Vineyard from which wine is produced only during the best vintages.

Diamond Creek is known for its exceptional mountain Cabernet which is made in tiny quantities. Only around 500 cases are made from each vineyard with a total annual production of approximately 1500 cases.
