One of the pioneering winemaking families that have helped shape Napa as it is today, the Chappellets have been making wine here on their estate in Napa’s eastern hills since 1967. The property’s rugged sloping vineyards are ideal for producing intense and powerful wines.
The estate is best known for its big, bold Cabernet Sauvignons and red blends sourced from Pritchard Hill which is considered one of the Valley’s finest terroirs. The hill takes its name from Charles Pritchard, a local landowner who was the first to plant grapes here back in 1882.
As well as excellent Cabernets and red blends, the Chappellets also make some delicious white wines from Chenin Blanc and source fruit from other vineyards to for their Napa Valley Chardonnay and Zinfandel wines. Total production for the estate is small and typically hovers around 45,000 cases annually.
Visitors are welcomed by pior appointment with a tour and tasting available at certain hours of the day. A visit to Chappellet Winery typically includes an informal walk-through the winery while enjoying a glass of wine in hand followed by a sit-down tasting in the atmospheric cellar.
