Established in 1995, Lokoya specializes in premium Cabernet that showcases the very best of Napa’s mountain terroirs with vineyards ranging from 1000 to 2100 feet above sea level. The name comes from a local Native American tribe who inhabited what is now known as Mount Veeder in the Mayacamas on the western side of Napa Valley.
Fruit is sourced from four key appellations, Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain, and turned into four powerful Cabernet wines each with their own personality by talented winemaker Chris Carpenter. Carpenter also oversees the winemaking at Cardinale and La Jota, bringing a wealth of experience of working with some of Napa’s finest vineyards.
Thanks to the high elevation, sparse soils and cooler mountain setting, Lokoya’s wines are powerful and intense, yet balanced by a subtle freshness and aromatics. These are very age-worthy Cabernets which will easily keep for several decades in the cellar.
Lokoya is not open to the public for visits, but serious wine collectors and enthusiasts may be able to secure a reservation depending on availability. Visits take place in the newly-refurbished Hospitality Centre and feature four of Lokoya’s current releases as well as a rare library vintage.
