One of the newer wineries in the Valley, Ovid was founded by Mark Nelson and Dana Johnson in 2005. The couple chose to name their new venture after the Roman poet Ovid whose long poem entitled Metamorphoses has particular resonance with the business of turning grapes into wine.
The estate is located on Pritchard Hill which is well known for its exceptional terroir thanks to the work of Ovid’s near neighbours, Chappellet Winery, which was founded here in the 1960s.
Ovid has built a reputation for top quality Napa reds which are primarily crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Ovid has a big cult following all over the globe, so their wines are extremely hard to get hold of and are sold via a very competitive wait list.
Visitors to Ovid are rewarded with a very special private Napa Valley wine tour thanks to the serene atmosphere, exceptional wines and stunning views from the winery’s lofty hillside setting looking out over the surrounding land. Tasting appointments must be booked in advance and offer a rare opportunity to taste Ovid’s sell-out wines.
