One of Napa’s top Cabernet producers, Spottswoode is often compared to Bordeaux’s top chateaux. In the words of the legendary American wine critic Robert Parker, “if Chateau Margaux were in Napa Valley, it would be Spottswoode.”
The estate was founded in 1882 and has been owned by five different families over the years. It’s modern history began in the 1970s when the Novaks bought the property and began selling their top quality fruit to local wineries including Shafer and Duckhorn. In 1982 owner Mary Novak decided to start bottling her own wines, setting Spottswoode on a path to international recognition.
Spottswoode is also one of the first Napa wineries to have embraced organic agriculture, adopting the practice in 1985. They strive to work alongside Mother Nature wherever possible, adopting sustainable measures such as planting native California grasses in the vineyard to boost biodiversity.
Visitors to Spottswoode can enjoy an intimate Napa Valley wine tour experience which begins with a guided walk through the vineyard and the stunning stone cellar. This is followed by a sit-down tasting featuring two of their top-rated Cabernets and their estate Sauvignon Blanc.
